Editorial January 2008
20 years of Cactus and Adventures
Dear Readers,
Cactus-Adventures was born in 1988 to the memory of
Pol Bourdoux, the creator of the French-speaking Belgian Cactus
journal. At this time, I did not think that my journal would last so
for a long time. It was a question of filling a space.
Today, Cactus-Adventures International is one of the
cactophile journals most represented in the world, with 3 different
editions in 3 languages (French, English and Spanish) in 83 countries.
But it does exist because you decided so. Without
interested subscribers in this out of standards publication, it would
quickly have stopped being published. Meanwhile, other journals
disappeared but, come hell or high water, Cactus-Adventures
International continued to publish 4 issues a year. The difficulties
were present: legal, human, economic difficulties, nothing was
forgotten. But readers remained faithful. This is what allowed us to
continue.
In 1996, thanks to Nelly Bilemdjian’s impulse
as President and his team, the Association ARIDES found the necessary
run-up to continue the accomplished work, and remains nowadays thanks
to the current team led by Geneviève Louet.
Nobody is perfect, and your journal could be better.
The leaders of this world can only promise us at present wind and
tears. But as far as we are concerned, continuing with what makes our
character and our independence, working so that we can be artisans in
favour of nature, still more growers than collectors, that is we can
promise you.
Thank you for being with us; we hope that this year is that of all your wishes.
Happy New Year 2008!
